Reflection questions for work

What if you entered each phase of the year with the same zeal you have on January 1?

My team had a Mid-Year’s Eve Party on June 30 to reflect on the first half of the year and to raise our energy for Q3 and Q4. I gave them each a small notebook and a card with “reflection prompts” printed on it to guide our discussion.

A mentor once did the same for me. He gave me a binder with worksheets in it and told me that I needed to keep track of the things I learned, because no one else could do that for me. (Thank you, Alan.)

Make reflection a habit. Remind yourself to pause when things are going well, but also when you’re off track and need to come back to center. Try scheduling quarterly check-in with yourself, if not monthly or even weekly.

Here are some sample reflection questions to get you started:

This past [length of time], I struggled with…
Right now, what works well is…
I’m really looking forward to…
I need to say/ask for/do…
I want to connect with…
I’m my best self when…
I choose to celebrate…
I am so grateful for…
I have learned…

Some of these questions were inspired by my practice with the Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte. Check out the Desire Map Day Planner for daily reflection questions >>

Here’s a peek at my Mid-Year’s Eve Reflection:

I’m my best self when…I can help solve a problem or put a new project on course.
Right now, what works well is…showing kindness.
I’m really looking forward to…exploring organizational development and serving for the highest good.
